Mission Impossible?
Constantly meeting tight deadlines… Working at breakneck speed… Hitting targets (even when the goalposts move!)… Being expected to respond instantly and expertly to every single interruption, email, message and call day/night, work day/weekend… Battling those around you who drain your energy – the vampires, drama queens, saboteurs and other time wasters! Work-Life balance?… What Work-Life balance?!!...
How well or poorly a company truly invests in its Human Resource and Wellbeing programmes is a reliable indicator on how well or poorly a company is investing in its most valuable of assets, its people and consequently how well or poorly it is performing as a business.
"My global experience leading and optimising corporate risk management and health and safety performance and contributing to employee engagement programmes, most recently with Bupa, have shown me clearly what is needed to harness and maximize employee performance and how.” - Suzanne Parkes

HISTORIC ROYAL PROPERTIES AND ESTATES, U.K.
Engaged as a Health and Safety Consultant, Suzanne Parkes drafted a Health & Safety Policy that captured a variety of locations, specialist operations and trades, from fine art restorers, fendersmiths, horologists, laundry workers, kitchen staff, stud grooms, chauffeurs, property managers and contractors, gardeners to helicopter pilots. Once completed, she devised ways to ensure its requirements were readily understood and adopted by all. This was achieved through the successful engagement of employees and leadership members and the creation and delivery of tailor-made training courses and tools. Suzie also partnered with the Chief Fire Officer and devised and implemented a revised and simplified Emergency Evacuation plan for the principle premises.
"Suzie lifted Health & Safety off the pages and made it meaningful and useful" - Property Management
BUPA, Worldwide
As the Global Health & Safety Strategy & Governance Manager of a leading global healthcare provider with 52,000 employees, one of the greatest challenges was how to engage employees and standardise reporting from different geographical jurisdictions and business market units, accustomed as they were to managing local operations as separate businesses. Within a matter of months Suzanne built effective communities of practice to facilitate full collaboration, centres of excellence to support operational delivery and simple tools to enable meaningful, full and standardised reporting to facilitate full statutory compliance and to provide Business Leaders with the visibility they needed.
ORACLE (JONES LANG LASALLE), EMEA
Within 18 months and at no additional cost, Suzanne converted 140
newly acquired sites across Europe, Middle East and Africa into HS&E fully
legally compliant premises and their newly appointed Facilities Managers into
a high performing team.
Oracle's own in house team of EHS Auditors appointed by this multi-billion dollar
global IT and software provider, scored the portfolio 100% compliant.
In response to high staff turnover rates at JLL, Suzanne devised and implemented
a corporate training module and workshop on Managing Pressure at Work,
which continues to run successfully today. In recognition for her outstanding
contributions, Suzanne received a number of awards for continually delivering
excellence.
THE GLOBAL PROPERTY TRUST, Sydney
Suzanne single-handedly implemented a full Wellbeing, Health and Safety framework for this Australian global property trust giant from scratch over a two year period. Governed by Australian legislation, which was undergoing revision at the time, Suzanne quickly got to grips with a wealth of new information within a short period of time whilst familiarising herself with a diverse portfolio of retail centres, offices, industrial business parks and development projects. Successful results were achieved, including a reduction of Lost Time Injuries by 600% and a reduction in Insurance Premiums by 2/3. This was largely as a result of her ability to quickly identify what needed to be implemented and how, her ability to fully engage others and quickly facilitate positive working alliances and powerful communities of practice. This included creating a simple and standardised reporting framework and reporting tools for the reporting and escalation of and response to accidents and critical incidents and advising the Leadership Team, Developments Directors and Projects Managers on their revised legal responsibilities and leading them through the completion of a Due Diligence Audit, all devised and implemented at zero cost.
