This week I crossed the Forth Road Bridge for the first time and I was treated to the awesome spectacle that is the Forth Railway Bridge alongside it.

I imagined what it must have taken for the many people who contributed in their different ways to achieve this incredible piece of engineering that connects Edinburgh at South Queensferry with Fife at North Queensferry.

I crossed it with work colleagues, experts in their fields and I was struck by the feeling of here I am again, embarking on another work project and exploring new ground but how very different things felt this time round.

There’s a wonderful camaraderie and sense of wellbeing that comes from being a member of a skilled team, whose sole intention is the pursuit of expansion. There’s a wonderful sense of peace that comes from knowing your stuff and finding a way to bring your unique skills to help the team in its achievement of goals.

Liking your work colleagues is helpful in this process but it’s not essential to the team’s success. Part of the maturing process is accepting others for who they are and where they are at. Loving unconditionally means holding others in positive regard, even when they aren’t behaving in a way you’d like them to.

Contrasts help us to navigate through life and time is our friend. It provides us with the opportunity to observe and to ponder and to visualise and to remember. Time is your opportunity to take an emotional journey that might be different to the one you are actually observing. Taking that journey can help you to make connections, build bridges and expand.
