Feeling Like Buried Treasure at Work?

Many of you will know that I’ve worked with Corporates around the world for more than 23 years. I’m regularly asked to go in and take a look at how Operations are running and to find ways to help things run more smoothly and help employees feel happy and energised from the work they do.

When something isn’t working and people are under pressure, it’s easy to have the knee jerk reaction of wanting to replace something/someone that isn’t working as well as anticipated, with something/someone that is hoped will.

More than ever, Managers are under pressure to deliver results and to make their mark. Whilst it can be tempting to make big changes, this isn’t always necessary.

Sometimes all that is needed is finessing. Fine tuning what you’ve got. Creating the right vehicle or environment to allow people’s true brilliance to shine.

1. Your starting point is trusting that some outside the box thinking is okay. We’ve heard it said that the definition of stupid is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. When your choices and decisions are based on the same old thinking or processes you’ve been using every time for years and years, then why are you surprised when you still feel stuck?

2. As Facilitator, you need the ability to see the goodness and greatness in everyone. Every single person brings something unique and worthwhile, from innovation to steadfastness. Even if what someone brings is the contrast of what you don’t want, then their contribution is valuable.

3. Finally, you need to facilitate ways for everyone to share their greatness. Enabling people to bring their unique special qualities to the work that they do and with each other will get you all to where you need and want to be: a happy, positive, energised and engaged workforce.
