I trained as a psychotherapist so I’m a big fan of analysis and mindfulness as vehicles to personal wellbeing and empowerment. I recognise the importance of engaging with and expressing feelings. I also recognise the importance of practising healthy emotional detachment.

Did you know it takes approximately 90 seconds to start feeling angry?...

Did you know that the thoughts you have directly affect your emotions?...

Consciously or unconsciously choosing to replay old negative thoughts forces you to feel the same negative emotions, which triggers the same negative responses and negative environment around you. This chosen behaviour only gets worse over time.

After years of this, the negative responses, and with them, the negative environment manifested become so familiar to the individual that even though they know things aren’t right, unless they intervene with positive, adapted thoughts and behaviour, they will perpetuate the same negative thoughts, feelings and behaviour because this has become familiar and therefore oddly comforting to them. Negativity and unhappiness becomes their state of choice.

Want a quick solution?... ;o)

Choose not to have and dwell on negative thoughts. Lose the negative thought and you lose the negative emotion and behaviour. It really is that simple.

Some people might need an expert guide to give the the skills and insights to get the clarity and resilience needed to be able to do this and to break old patterns but it’s a brave and wonderful journey worth making.
