Something Missing?

Regularly I work with corporate teams who feel there are never enough hours in the day. A common cause of frustration is simply the volume of emails office workers have to process: day and night, weekday and weekend.
When I ask people in the room who receives too much junk mail from co-workers i.e. emails they are copied into that don’t concern them, emails that clearly haven’t been read by the sender, emails that have been misread and forwarded to them in error; most hands go up. This is most of the company.
Then when I ask who sends junk emails, very few hands go up, if any! “So this can’t be true, can it?!” I say and slowly smiles ripple round the room in acknowledgement.
Something similar happens in companies I go into with poor employee engagement. Some employees who tell me they’re unhappy soon start to blame other things and people for their unhappiness and invariably this is directed at the company ‘culture’. I see the light go on for many people when I tell them “You ARE the company culture, so why don’t you change how you are at work to change the company culture?”
If you’re looking round your workplace or your life, feeling like there’s something missing, then know that the thing that’s missing is probably YOU.
So what do you need to be more of today be more present, more effective, more positive and more engaged in your workplace and in your life?...
What do you need to do to be more you?...
